From the Nacogdoches County Democratic Party

NACOGDOCHES, TX (News Release) - The Executive Committee of the Nacogdoches County Democratic Party elected Mike Strong as county chair on Monday. Meeting at the County Courthouse, the 18 precinct chairs who make up the Executive Committee voted unanimously in favor of Mr. Strong. He will take over from Ms. Apollonia Ellis, who is stepping down after over a year in the position.

Mr. Strong said that he was "honored to follow in Apollonia's footsteps after she led the Democratic Party through a difficult primary and general election last year". He also spoke about the recent election in Nacogdoches, noting that "the results indicate a broad base of support for issues such as better quality education, economic development, improved quality of life, and fairness and equity for all."

Mr. Strong has a Ph.D. in Economics and served in the U.S. Army from 1966 through 1969. He is retired and lives near Lake Nacogdoches. He worked in Asia and Africa for 24 years helping countries there improve their public health systems and providing US-funded support for child survival, family planning, and HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment. He enjoys working in the yard and racing his vintage Formula Volkswagen race car.
